- August 1, 2009 - MedsFile to Integrate IGI ORBIT® Platform to Enhance PHR Interoperability Initiative
|
Atlanta-based MedsFile.com announced today that it will integrate the IGI ORBIT® platform to power their enhanced Personal Health Record. IGI’s ORBIT® will enhance the ability for MedsFile subscribers to easily and securely exchange their medical information with their health care providers and other key stakeholders within their health care community, such as pharmacies, labs and health insurance plans. By participating in this new service, patients will empowered to: transport their PHR information anywhere and at anytime; control what information is shared and with whom; improve communication with physicians, pharmacists, care givers and loved ones; and make better, more informed health care decisions — before, during, and after the point of care.
MedsFile’s Personal Health Record allows subscribers to enter vital personal health information, such as immunization and allergy information into a HIPAA compliant repository. The new integrated version utilizes the IGI ORBIT® platform to allow for portability and secure data exchange with other industry aggregated sources, such as immunization registries and claims data sources. Data exchange will follow federal guidelines for interoperability among other facilities and care providers. Registration for the online service is quick and easy and can occur in a matter of minutes with subscription costs around $9.99 to $14.99 a month for a typical plan. MedsFile’s PHR can be accessed, added to, or printed from the Web anytime, anywhere.
MedsFile was founded in 2004 by CIO Mark Holland as a way for consumers to begin to take charge of collecting and managing their own personal and family health information as the medical community seeks out an agreement on a common method and platform for tracking and exchanging health information. “With the IGI ORBIT® integration, MedsFile’s PHR can now act as that common platform,” Holland says, “and an engine that powers smarter, better delivery of health care services initiated by both the patient and the practitioner. Consumers will be able to come to our site, grant permission for us to gather their medical data, and subsequently view their medical records online like a credit report. It’s revolutionary.”
“Providing the secure portability and interoperability of Personal Health Records is a top priority in the industry,” said Arthur Kapoor, CEO of IGI Health. “By integrating the power of IGI’s ORBIT® platform, MedsFile will be able to offer premium interoperable service to their client base and IGI is proud to work with a team that is dedicated to improving the lives of patients.”

- August 1, 2009 - Large State-Owned Enterprise Selects IGI Health to Implement Online Benefits Enrollment System
|
IGI announces that one of the largest New York state-owned enterprises has selected IGI Health to implement the ORBIT® Enrollment Program, an online benefits management system. This system allows the provider’s 1800 employees to opt into new benefits programs, track yearly changes to their benefits, communicate with human resources departments, calculate payouts for life, long-term disability, flexible savings, health savings accounts, and transfer their benefits eligibility information directly to providers. Currently, such activities are conducted manually; by adopting an electronic platform, the provider will reduce administrative costs, simplify the enrollment process, and improve the delivery of benefits and services to its employees.
The ORBIT® Online Enrollment application can interface directly with both Human Resources Management Systems and SAP applications, which will eliminate any excess costs related to updating legacy systems. Additionally, the software is implemented in a SaaS model (software as a service), thereby streamlining application management.

- June 1, 2009 -- Minnesota Health Plans Select IGI to Power First State-Mandated Shift to Electronic Data Exchange.
|
Minnesota has become the first state in the nation to require all health care providers to electronically submit insurance claims to health plans, using a single set of data standards. The law, referred to as the E3 Initiative, will also require plans and providers to electronically exchange information about patients' eligibility for insurance coverage and benefits, as well as payment remittance advice. While other states have initiated efforts to streamline healthcare administration by implementing electronic infrastructure to parts of their legacy systems, Minnesota is the first to issue a statewide mandate, a move that could reduce costs by more than $60 million this year A study co-sponsored by health plans, physicians and hospitals showed that a single set of billing codes, for example, could reduce the cost of phone calls alone by $15.6 million to $21.8 million annually.
Minnesota's health plans have selected IGI to offer health care providers MN E-Connect (www.mneconnect.com), a web-based portal solution powered by IGI's ORBIT® software that will allow all health care stakeholders in Minnesota to seamlessly comply with the new provisions of the law. The web service, which opened for provider registration on May 15, 2009, is funded by Minnesota health plans at no cost to providers, and may be used by any provider, regardless of size. Specifically, MN E-Connect allows providers to file three free claims types - medical, hospital and dental - while rigorously maintaining HIPAA standards. Participating health plans include: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, FirstPlan of Minnesota, HealthPartners, Medica, Metropolitan Health Plan, PreferredOne, Sanford Health Plan and UCare.
"IGI presented a solution that met our most critical requirements: MN E-Connect is easy to use, even for providers who have limited technical resources - and can also meet the needs of rapidly changing offices, hospitals and payer systems," said Julie Brunner, executive director of the Minnesota Council of Health Plans. "The technology is straightforward, cost-effective and interoperable. Interoperability is key - health plans were already conducting electronic billing transactions - ORBIT® provides access to payer systems to all providers."
Minnesota's partnership with IGI compliments the state's other collaborative work in health care IT including e-prescribing, transportable patient health information, credentialing and the Minnesota Health Information Exchange (MN HIE), a statewide secure network that shares clinical and administrative information among health care providers.
"We're excited that Minnesota has chosen ORBIT® as the engine to fuel innovative health care reform," said Arthur Kapoor, CEO of IGI. "This move positions Minnesota health care providers and health plans as leaders in streamlining back office operations, turning their vision for the electronic exchange of health information into reality." More information about the E3 Initiative can be found at http://www.health.state.mn.us/auc.

- April 7, 2009 – Meridian Health Pilots Electronic transfer form >>
|
HIMSS, Chicago, Apr. 7, 2009 – Infotech Global, Inc. (IGI) announced today that after months of planning and training, Meridian Health, a not-for-profit health system in Central New Jersey is piloting the electronic version of the draft Universal Transfer Form (UTF).
The draft UTF was tested with providers in five regions in its hard copy version in 2008. This work was made possible through the cooperative efforts of the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA), the Health Care Association of New Jersey and many other provider representatives, stakeholders, the Department of Health and Senior Services and Rutgers University.
While the paper pilot was occurring IGI, a New Jersey based information technology company, worked to create an electronic version of the tool. The search for a health system that had many provider types where the electronic UTF could be trialed led to Meridian.
NJHA and the other partners in this effort thank the nursing and management teams at Meridian’s Riverview Medical Center and Riverview Rehabilitation Center, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Ocean Medical Center, Meridian at Home and Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation Centers for the time and energy they dedicated to this project.
As the pilot moves forward, so too does the work with DHSS to develop the regulations that will govern the implementation of the UTF statewide for all providers licensed by DHSS. NJHA is working closely on this important aspect of the project.
In addition, NJHA will continue to work with the Health Care Association of New Jersey and other stakeholders to keep providers informed about the progress of this implementation, including education on how to use the form.

- April 6, 2009 – IGI announces portal designed to maximize data sharing between hospitals and their affiliated physicians >>
|
HIMSS, Chicago, Apr. 6, 2009 – Infotech Global, Inc. (IGI) today announced the launch of the ORBIT® Affiliated Physician’s portal, a software solution that provides an efficient way to exchange healthcare information inside hospitals and with health information networks. This solution will allow healthcare providers to be more easily connected to one another so that they can provide better care while benefiting from reduced integration costs.
Until now, the sharing of patient information between healthcare network participants has been hindered by the steep costs and complexities of proprietary data and integration services. Integration between IGI ORBIT® and Intel® SOA Expressway for Healthcare addresses this problem with an efficient, scalable, SOA based solution that connects and translates data as it moves across a healthcare network. IGI ORBIT® utilizes Intel® SOA Expressway for Healthcare to retrieve data for portal display from a variety of hospital systems including EHR, EMR, database, or HL7 based sources.
The solution has already been successfully piloted with several healthcare providers, including at a hospital system and its trading partners in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The Affiliated Physicians portal boasts a return on investment with as little as ten affiliated physician’s connected.
“We are excited about taking this offering to the hospital and IDN market. In this current economy, more than ever, we feel that hospitals must find a way to build closers ties with their affiliated physicians in order to improve the quality of care, while maximizing hospital revenue,” said Arthur Kapoor, CEO of IGI.
“It’s a powerful combination-IGI’s portal framework enables rapid sharing of healthcare information and Intel® SOA Expressway for Healthcare delivers standards-based SOA integration capabilities from a wide variety of legacy healthcare systems,” said Girish Juneja, director of SOA Products at Intel’s Software and Services Group. “In addition, Intel SOA Expressway for Healthcare’s optimization for Intel® multi-core processors as a soft-appliance delivers an outstanding price-for-performance ratio which drives down total deployment costs.”
The IGI ORBIT® portal framework has open capabilities for clinical and revenue cycle transaction sets.
Intel SOA Expressway for Healthcare acts as an interface engine and provides for rapid data exchange, workflow management, and translation to enable data exchange to and from any original format. This advance in software is an example of how technology can help improve patient care and reduce healthcare costs by streamlining information flow.
